Hello! I’m Alyson Hardwick, and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I am a White Inuk with roots in Sheffield, England and Nunatsiavut, Labrador. I have been incessantly taking photos since I was 14 years old, two whole decades of my life so far! I am an artist, writer, poet and children’s rights and disability rights advocate and activist. My interests lie in re-Indigenizing spaces and communities, astrology, nature, childcare, politics and the arts. I love meeting new people and allowing them to feel seen by my portraits. Being photographed can be incredibly vulnerable, and I like to make the experience as calm and joyful as possible. Connecting with others through photography has enriched my life so much and I love being able to offer joy through the moments I capture. I strive to portray the most authentic and beautiful parts of people. I describe myself as fiercely compassionate, anti-fascist and someone who deeply believes in the inherent dignity and rights for all living beings, including the water and the land. I have never and will never work with AI in any of my artistic practises, as I believe art is an expression of the human experience - something a computer will never have.

To keep myself, loved ones, community members and future clients safe I wear a respirator mask at all times indoors as well as in poorly ventilated and/or crowded outdoor spaces. I haven’t been sick since December 2021 and am grateful for masks and the online Long Covid community and for disabled folks for teaching me so much about the devastating effects of virus infection. I hope to raise awareness about Covid and Long Covid, and you’ll see me posting about it on my socials! As far as clients go, you do not necessarily have to mask (but it would be appreciated!) before we meet, though I do ask that my mask-wearing and personal space are respected when we engage in working together!
