Hello! I’m Alyson Hardwick. I am a White Inuk with roots in Sheffield, England and Nunatsiavut, Labrador. From 2002 to 2015 I lived in Nova Scotia and attended Nova Scotia Community College for their Applied Communication Arts program as well as their Photography program. I freelanced from 2012-2015 as a portrait photographer in Halifax before moving to Toronto in Spring 2015. I was lucky enough to get great opportunities right off the gate, taking photos for DJ Ryan Hemsworth as well as a local slow fashion brand Sartoria. Over the years I’ve worked with Vice News, the Globe and Mail, the Inuit Art Quarterly, Jax Irwin, Luna Li, Weaves, My Best Friend Jacob and so many more talented people. From Fall 2020 to Summer 2024 I worked as an Executive Assistant at the Inuit Art Foundation, learning invaluable skills and being introduced to an entirely new universe of art. I was eventually inspired to take my own artistic career more seriously and left to pursue my Bachelors Degree in Indigenous Visual Culture at OCAD University. I love expressing myself creatively in a vast spectrum of ways. I love to write poetry and memoir-style blog posts (check out the archives and feelings!) I love to draw, paint, sculpt, film. I love to decorate spaces and would love to one day do interior design. I love fashion, particularly styling, but also designing. I love to learn new mediums and I love meeting new people. I would like to write a book or potentially, many books. I would love to create movies. I would love to have my art on exhibition, published even. I would love to voice-act for cartoons, I’m (weirdly) good at silly voices. I love singing and I love dancing. I love the ocean, tarot, astrology, people, plants, animals, etc etc etc.
Email or dm me! :) I’d love to work with you!
To keep myself, loved ones, community members and future clients safe I wear a respirator mask at all times indoors as well as in poorly ventilated and/or crowded outdoor spaces. I haven’t been sick since December 2021 and am grateful for masks and the online Long Covid community and for disabled folks for teaching me so much about the devastating effects of virus infection. I hope to raise awareness about Covid and Long Covid, and you’ll see me posting about it on my socials! As far as clients go, you do not necessarily have to mask (but it would be appreciated!) before we meet, though I do ask that my mask-wearing and personal space are respected when we engage in working together!
